When synthetic turns into a sail

Went for speed today — synthetic underlayment and a coil nailer humming — then a 25 mph gust tried to launch the roll off a 7/12 like a kite; at least the 6‑nail on the Class 3 shingles kept them honest. What “time‑saving” material pick has bitten you back this hard?

But > “25 mph gust tried to launch the roll” — , same; what’s saved me time is cap nails every 12" on the laps and a sacrificial bundle as a brake every 6–8’, plus unroll across the wind so the tail isn’t a sail. I still run the coil for shingles, but I pin the leading edge with two caps before pulling the roll or one jam turns it into a kite again. You running a cap stapler or just the coil on that 7/12?

On a 7/12 with a “coil nailer humming”, I pin the lead edge with two 1–1/4" screws and insulation plates, then roll and nail — adds 30 seconds, saves the kite show in a 25 mph gust. If it’s really squirrely, a 3’ strip of ice-and-water at the eave gives the synthetic some teeth, but you’ll pay a few extra bucks. @tom_king45 ever try the plate/screw trick?
